Uranium in the water

October 10th, 2008, 4:17 pm · 1 Comment · posted by by Alan Bock, Register editorial writer

If you missed it, I recommend Brian Joseph’s investigative piece on the water storage facility — Hayfield, in the desert in Riverside County — with unusually high conentrations of uranium. From the way I read it, it’s a little unclear whether this is really dangerous to humans, and they’re talking about diluting with Colorado River water. But the troubling thing is that the Metroplitan Water District, that great bureaucratic behemoth, seems to have concealed the fact about the uranium, perhaps even from some board members.

  • Of course Alan, if we went the Libertarian route of government not being involved in anything and having this project delivered by “Unregulated Private Industry” we wouldn’t know anything at all about the Uranium, nor would there been any regulatory standards that called for testing.
