Robert Fisk on replacing the dollar

October 29th, 2009, 12:35 pm · 9 Comments · posted by by Alan Bock, Register editorial writer

Here’s a YouTube of British journalist Robert Fisk talking about his recent story on plans to replace the dollar as a reserve currency for international oil deals. I’ve met with Fisk several times, and while we don’t agree with him on everything, he’s got unusually good sources and is a pretty conscientious journalist.

hah. Hooray for Mr. Fisk! You would never find a MSM american journalist making these statements. It’s the new pravdaization of american journalism. why do you think we’re invading Iraq and Afghanistan? It really has nothing to do with al-queda or the taliban. they are convenient excuses. we are setting up military strongholds in those countries in a futile effort to retain global political superiority. We are a declining empire. We suffered enormous setbacks from 2000-present. Enormous. Morally, economically and politically. About all we could hope for now is to abate the rate of decline.

  • Catfish says:

Laughable to say the least. This is guy is so full himself and going off and making the kind of assertions that he has made in this video clip does not make for a conscientious journalist.

    • ocobserver says:

Here are list of Fisk’s awards. He is reknown internationally and considered an extremely credible source of information:

“In 1991, Fisk won a Jacob’s Award for his RTÉ Radio coverage of the first Gulf War.[23] He received Amnesty International UK Press Awards in 1998 for his reports from Algeria and again in 2000 for his articles on the NATO air campaign against Yugoslavia in 1999. He received the British Press Awards’ International Journalist of the Year seven times, and twice won its “Reporter of the Year” award.[24] In 2001, he was awarded the David Watt Prize for “outstanding contributions towards the clarification of political issues and the promotion of their greater understanding” for his investigation into the Armenian Genocide by the Turks in 1915.[25] In 2002 he was the fourth recipient of the Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism. More recently, Fisk was awarded the 2006 Lannan Cultural Freedom Prize along with $350,000.[26]

He was made an honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of St Andrews on June 24, 2004. The Political and Social Sciences department of Ghent University (Belgium) awarded Fisk an honorary doctorate on March 24, 2006. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the American University of Beirut in June 2006. Trinity College Dublin awarded him a second, honorary, Doctorate in July 2008.[27]”

So your assertions are laughable. Not his.

      .

      • Catfish says:

Don’t you think that some of these phony awards have gotten to his a head?

        • ocobserver says:

Yeah, I didn’t think his list of awards would impress you and elicit a retraction of your previous comment. I mean, any old reporter gets awards like this:

“He received the British Press Awards’ International Journalist of the Year seven times, and twice won its “Reporter of the Year” award”

But when posters hate the message (even though it’s true with inserted proof sources) they attack the messenger with a vengeance.

But that’s one of the reasons we are a dying empire.

    ===============================

What we should do is relace the dollar with toilet paper, Charmin is my chice, because that is what the dollar is going to be worth once inflation sets in from printing trillions of unbacked dollars, printing it like it was toilet paper.

  • RepublicansAreLiarsandThieves says:

Why not, the dollar has been worthless for years. Heck people in small towns in Europe used to want dollars insted of Marks or Franks but the last time I went about 4 years ago that was not the case.

    • Catfish says:

Then it really not must not be the case since President Barack Obama became President. No single President has trashed the American dollar and American prestige, I might add, more than this current President. Please let us know what truth our current President has endorsed during his Presidency.
